CONSTRUCTION
A Custom Handcrafted Log Home
The construction last in average two months.

The spruce logs get harvested.
After they get delivered to the log yard, we debark them with draw knives.
After a short drying time, the kambium layer of the logs will be removed
with draw knives also. This is being done for a lighter and brighter look
(fine peeling). Rough spots and knots are getting sanded and the logs
treated against UV and water damage.
We are building with the overscribe technique on lateral grooves (visible
gap between lower logs) the weight of the upper structure will cause the
gap to shrink and maintain a tight corner notch. A stress relief kerf
is cut on top of every log to promote controlled checking. A mortise and
tennon is being used on log connections.

We are using the new saddle compression notch. This corner notch is superior
to others in maintaining a tight fit. The lateral grooves are coped to
reduce splitting.

However – it’s also
possible to prebuild in a log yard and deliver the finished logs to your site.

When the building is completed in a log yard, the logs get numbered,
loaded on trucks and delivered to your foundation.

The reassembling of the structure takes two to five days, dependent on
the size of the building.

Windows, electric outlets and splines for interior frame walls are cut
out during the reassembling time on your site. On customer request, we
are building interior log walls too.

Romano Conzett Log Homes is a specialized log building company - we build the log
structure only up to the roof, with posts and beams or trusses. We also
build custom stairways, log signs, picnic tables, benches, log water fountains,
or planters.
